Hunting the Crescent: Capturing Caldwell 27 Through a 6-Inch Dob with a Phone UNTRACKED

Overview   The Crescent Nebula (Caldwell 27 / NGC 6888) is one of those objects that looks almost too good to be true. A Wolf-Rayet star (WR 136) is blasting a fast stellar wind into slower material it ejected hundreds of thousands of years ago. The collision lights up a ragged, filamentary shell about 5,000 light-years away in Cygnus. Visually it is faint and low-surface-brightness. Photographically it can be spectacular. This is a field report on capturing it the hard way: untracked 6-inch GSO Dobsonian, Celestron Omni 40 mm Plössl, Motorola G85 in RAW, ½-second exposures at ISO 3200, then stacking in DeepSkyStacker and cleaning with GraXpert. Brightest crater on the lunar surface - Aristarchus

  Average Seeing conditions Excellent seeing conditions Aristarchus is the Moon’s brightest large crater—a 40 km scar of relatively recent violence sitting on one of the most geologically interesting patches of the near side. It punches through the southeastern edge of the Aristarchus Plateau in Oceanus Procellarum and remains so reflective that it can be spotted with the naked eye and even glows through earthshine. This post covers the crater itself, the surrounding plateau, and a practical, high-magnification capture workflow using a Motorola G85 phone, a 4 mm eyepiece plus Celestron Omni 2× Barlow, and a 6-inch GSO Dobsonian. Location, Size, and Age Aristarchus sits at 23.7°N, 47.4°W. Diameter is typically given as 40–42 km; depth from rim to floor is on the order of 2.7–3.5 km (deeper than the Grand Canyon).
